Since there seems to be some confusion as to what is needed, thought I'd toss this out: As of 3:00 p.m. Tuesday - A co worker was at Qualcomm delivering hay for rabbits and met the "main pet supply person." She was able to get the following list of needs from her:
NO dog food for now - they have tons of dog food
DO NEED:
- Cat litter and cat litterboxes
- Horse hay - ideally orchard grass
- Bran mash or wheat for horses
- Dog bowls - stainless steel preferred
- Puppy pens or a way to let the dogs stretch their legs from carriers
- They even need corral type areas for the many horses showing up. Suspect that would need additional coordination with "Q" people.
She also said she was told but had not seen "50 rabbits that came in today". Hope this helps. Thank you.

between all kinds of pet purchases including MANY that are mentioned in this blog as of 3pm or whatever, and picking up necessities for the evacs at qualcomm mentioned on the news (toothbrushes and toothpaste, razors, deodorant, soap, hand sanitizer, tons of sunblock, sunglasses, crayons and coloring books for kids, feminine hygiene products, paper towels and toilet paper, aspirin, antacids, paper plates and plasticware, garbage bags, first aid kits, batteries, combs, etc.etc.etc.) we spent hundreds of dollars and had filled our car up to the roof with things we had been told were needed.
after waiting at the gate in a long line of cars of both volunteers, donators and evacuees for TWO HOURS, we were TURNED AWAY!!! despite the urgent and ongoing pleas on the news and radio for sunblock, toiletries, paper goods, pet supplies, etc, (it was even on the radio as we waited to enter!!!) by the time we got to the turn lane, a police officer told me qualcomm was not accepting any more donations (this was around 1:30 pm) and had everything they needed at this time. we told them they should notify the news or at least post a sign at the highway exit so people dont' wait for hours as we did to unsuccessfully make donations, but she said basically "oh well" and to try some other shelter, or to try again tomorrow.
we called four radio stations to get info on where to take these hundreds of dollars of toiletries, (including the items that were really meant specifically for qualcomm people such as the sunblock) where to take the pet supplies, and they basically couldn't help us. we called the ASPCA and they didn't answer their phones 'due to the emergency situation' so we went right over there and they took in the pet items but said they may not have a use for them. by the time we left, around 3pm, we felt so defeated by our wasted time, money and efforts that we just sobbed.
PLEASE do not post these needs when there is absolutely no way to deliver them, when they are not being accepted!!
if anyone knows an evacuation center or shelter that has a real use for some of the items i mentioned above, please let me know and please provide a phone number i can call to confirm that need.
QUALCOMM is TURNING PEOPLE AWAY.. they are turning needed donations away, and it makes everyone trying to make a difference like us feel like our efforts are wasted and useless.
i hope this blog updates accordingly.
boygirlparty:
thank you so much for the update...during this time of confusion, it's good to know which facilities need help, and those that have so many donations by loving fellow neighbors that the facilities are turning people away. The frustration in your blog makes me want to give a hug, I'm so sorry.... Please keep in mind that in the coming days, ssssoooo many people will need help and will need EXACTLY the things that you brought to Qualcomm.
You seem to be a very generous person and it won't be wasted...you'll see :-)
I know several people who did get in to drop off pet supplies late this afternoon. Unfortunately, information may have been given out differently thru different people at the stadium.
Thank you so much for your efforts. No matter where your thoughful supplies end up, they will be used and I am sure, very much appreciated.
I am sorry for any stress this caused you.
I know that the evacuation site at Parkway Plaza Mall located off of Fletcher Parkway and Johnson in the Sears parking lot was looking for some more donations. wed. morning they are hopeing to get some milk and warm coffee to give out.
Catnip Toys could be a soothing help to the cats who've been evacuated. Operation Happy Sock can provide big fluffy Happy Sock catnip toys (made from unwanted socks) to shelters or other humane services who are housing multiple cats. Please email happysock@cox.net.

There are evacuation points in North County, Del Mar Race Track, El Camino High School in Oceanside, Mira Costa College in Oceanside...all caring for human and animal evacuees. They may need some of the supplies mentioned. Hope this helps and thank you for your caring support.
